YLNI Chair Spotlight - Lindsey Dutrieux
Have you ever wanted to become a member of YLNI? Our organization is made up of a dedicated team of emerging leaders and volunteers. Meet Lindsey Dutrieux, who is currently serving as chair of the Membership Committee.
What is your background?
I received my undergraduate degree in biology and master's degree in public management from the (I)PFW campus where I now work in the Office of Academic Affairs. Originally from South Bend, I moved to Fort Wayne in 2009 for my education.
Please describe the YLNI Membership Committee
The YLNI Membership Committee hosts the General Membership Event (GME) and programs which engage and encourage participation from those new to the Northeast Indiana region or who have been around but wish to become more involved/reconnect with their community.
The Membership team visits area businesses to give presentations to employees which could benefit in continued development in alignment with YLNI's mission to retain emerging leaders. Future partnership with local businesses is in the works for a more informal after work hours meet-up, the Brew & Business series will offer an opportunity for new memberships and social engagement among company cohorts.
How did you first get involved with YLNI?
Back in 2016 before I graduated with my undergraduate degree, I was selected to participate in the YLNI College Mentorship program where I was partnered with an area business leader who encouraged me to continue my education and become more involved with my local community.
Are you involved with any other community engagement activities in the area?
I currently am an at-large Working Council member for the Purdue University Master Gardeners of Allen County, and a board member for Trees Indiana.
What is your favorite part of managing your programming?
I enjoy meeting new people and hearing why they moved to or moved back to Fort Wayne. Not being from this area myself it is nice to hear everyone's favorite places to eat, their favorite annual events, and learn how our community is so unique from the rest of the Midwest.
What do you think of the concept of work-life balance?
Work-life balance is essential and I fully believe that, while it is good to be passionate about your career and the position you hold, you can be replaced.
"No one is so important that the world will stop if they don't punch in" -Mom.
So often as young professionals we focus on our careers and getting ahead to someday be able to provide for our families what our parents couldn't give us (or to match what we had growing up), only to look around and realize our life is more than salaries, bonuses, and titles. I encourage everyone to take a vacation day and spend it with a loved one or call that friend who now lives far away.
