Driving Change

The Inclusion, Diversity and Advocacy (IDA) Committee serves as a channel of influence by having its members participate in community boards and committees. Its mission is to educate YLNI members, particularly young leaders, about community issues and to review public policies and initiatives, offering recommendations to the board. Additionally, it aims to strengthen relationships between members, the community, and public officials, while also raising awareness of legislation and advocating for members.

Tough Talks

YLNI presents a talk series providing a platform for community leaders from diverse backgrounds to engage in authentic conversations about challenging subjects like race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity/gender norms. This initiative aims to cultivate inclusivity and comprehension within our region, emphasizing the importance of listening and understanding, as it is through knowledge that we empower ourselves to enact positive change.

Legislation

The IDA committee is tasked with vigilantly monitoring local, state, and federal issues that could affect YLNI's mission of attracting and retaining young professionals through leadership development, community impact, and social engagement. Upon identifying such issues, IDA conducts thorough research and discussions. For matters requiring member input or further education, forums or meetings are organized to provide non-partisan information. IDA then evaluates the gathered data and presents recommendations to the YLNI Board of Directors. The board deliberates on these recommendations, considering the advantages and disadvantages of taking a stance before voting on their acceptance.

Community Collaborations

The IDA Committee will seek out organizations across Northeast Indiana with Diversity and Inclusion committees or a focus on these areas for potential partnerships. Ideally, an IDA member will represent YLNI on these committees or boards to provide updates on initiatives and identify areas where YLNI can complement existing efforts and address gaps effectively.
